As part of our broader mission, AHAA is currently focused on reform efforts within wound care—specifically the use of skin substitute therapies.

These therapies can be life-changing for patients with chronic and complex wounds when used appropriately. However, inconsistent oversight, policy ambiguity, and misuse have contributed to patient harm, reduced access, and unnecessary strain on public resources.

AHAA is working alongside clinicians and policymakers to promote:

Evidence-based utilization standards
Specialty-driven clinical oversight
Clear and consistent policy guidance
Protection of patient access while addressing waste and abuse

This directly ties skin substitutes to taxpayer protection, patient outcomes, and integrity—which is exactly what CMS wants to see.
